Wellborn Blueberry Festival

It's a sure sign of a small festival if the drive to get there takes longer than it does to visit all the booths.

We got up, had a good breakfast and headed out for the 20th Annual Blueberry festival in Wellborn.  We had high hopes, full bellies (the girls had a snack for the drive) and the girls were primed for adventure.

After securing a parking space we headed for the festival with high hopes.  Only to find a small, county town festival with most of the booths selling various plants, children's clothes or purses.  There was a scattering of variety - one booth with cool hand made wooden toys including pink John Deere Tractors, another selling hand crafted soap and one with hand crafted swings.  Only two booths sold anything relating to blueberries - one selling plants and one selling festival shirts.

They did have hula hoops and even though Rose hasn't mastered swimming - she ruled at the hula hoop!

Tea Party

The girls were poking around in the toy cabinet and found the tea pot that we were given when we got our match.  I hadn't let them play with it since it was ceramic up till now, but they plead their case and I relented.  They had so much fun pulling out the tiny silverware, napkins, cups and plates.  Their bunnies joined in and they had a party on the floor.

Rain Day

So today - thanks to a tropical storm - the forecast called for rain all day.  So we had to entertain ourselves inside.  We watched a movie - Lilo and Stitch.  They love the story and the idea of Ohana.  Movies that talk about families really resonate with both girls.  They made a tent city in foyer and camped.  They changed clothes multiple times.  They fought.  They colored.

I tried to get them to take a nap.  Instead we wound up jumping on the bed and making funny faces.

Then they raced around the house on scooters.  Yeah I'm one of "those" moms.

Day One of Summer Break

What a day.  The girls got us up at 6:45 am.  I had breakfast on the table by 7:10 am - eggs, grits and fruit.  After breakfast the girls played while I mopped the laundry room floor and cleaned the kitchen.   They have really great imaginations - one of the games they played is a favorite they call train.

These are the waiting passengers

After playing we read for a while on our Kindles.  I highly recommend if you have kids you check out the new Kindle Fire HD which comes with the Amazon App Freetime.  It is a wonderful app that makes the Kindle very kid friendly.  Once you install the app you can customize the Kindle for your child.  Content you'd rather your child not have is locked.  They have a wide variety of books, games and videos available.  It also lets you set limits on how long they can play games and watch videos as opposed to reading books.

Then we had lunch and went to the pool to swim with Aunt DeeDee.  The girls had a blast and Roni is starting to swim.  Rose isn't swimming yet, but is so very close to swimming as well.  Our swimming was cut short by the weather.  All in all it's been a good first day.

It's Official

The girls are now Pre-K graduates.  They had a class party today with snacks and a cake (one of their classmates had a birthday).  The girls were thrilled that I came to the party.  They told their friends my name is mommy so I had twenty preschoolers calling me mommy.  It was so sweet.

I cannot believe how fast time is going.  I take back all the times I wished they would grow up and find myself wishing that I could slow down time.

Graduation

So today Rose and Roni will graduate from Pre-K.  They were up at 5:30 am playing in their room.   When I went in to get them it looked like a tornado had hit.  It amazes me how quickly they can take a room from tidy to a complete mess.  Both girls chose to wear dresses and we walked to school.  On the way we stopped for a photo next to some flowers.

More photos from graduation to come later.

Busy Day

We went to Home Depot this morning for the kids workshop.  The girls both had a great time hammering, gluing and painting a pencil holder.

After Home Depot we went to Chiefland for the watermelon festival.  They had a parade - which was mainly all the contestants from the watermelon queen beauty contest sitting on the roofs of huge pickups and SUV's and a few huge tractors.  The folks in the parade tossed candy so the parade was a big hit.  Then we walked around the booths and got a free slice of watermelon.

After the festival we had lunch, went shopping and after a nap in the car for the girls we finished the day with ice cream.
